Welcoming Heralds of Hope

If a genie granted me three wishes, my first wish would be for a magic minute in which I could physically see the angels, fairies, guides, guardians, and other heralds of help and hope that I believe surround us all. I agree with Desmond Tutu, who says, “Angels, like parables and fine poetry, speak in many layers of meaning and mystery, trying to express the inexpressible. If we ignore them, our lives are the poorer.”

Although for a while Western society’s love affair with all things scientific eclipsed many people’s belief in the ethereal, scientists are returning to an acceptance of the value of divine intervention and the possibility that there is such a thing as angelic assistance. Solar scientist Michael is a good example. Having good-naturedly pooh-poohed his wife Patsy’s belief in angels for years, he’s now opened to the possibility that she may be right. What changed his mind? Cancer. Michael has returned to church after many years and is beginning to see the miraculous in both major and minuscule occurrences. Lately he has been making statements like, “It’s really weird how everything seems to be falling into place…” and “I had the strangest feeling I wasn’t alone while going through that test…”
